How to properly install Pneumatic Roofbolters bearings?
Jun 29, 2026| I. Pre-installation Preparations (Essential Basic Items)
1. Environmental Cleaning: Work in a dry, dust-free area, away from equipment that generates metal shavings and dust. Even in complex environments, minimize contamination as much as possible.
2. Parts Inspection: Verify the new bearing model; inspect the bearing surface for scratches, rust, and dents; clean the shaft and mounting holes, thoroughly removing existing oil, impurities, and old seal residue; measure the dimensions of the mounting shaft and holes to confirm tolerance matching.
3. Tool Preparation: Prepare a press, specialized tooling, and a soft copper rod/hammer. Do not directly strike the bearing with an iron hammer; prepare suitable lubricating oil in advance.
II. Core Installation Operation Specifications
1. Force Application Requirements (Most Critical Rule): Always apply force only to the corresponding bearing rings: When installing the inner ring onto the shaft, the force must be applied to the inner ring end face; when installing the outer ring onto the bearing housing, the force must be applied to the outer ring end face; if the inner and outer rings are installed simultaneously, ensure that pressure is applied to both rings simultaneously, and that the contact surfaces are on the same plane.
Do not strike the outer ring or transmit force through the rolling elements: Striking the outer ring or transmitting installation force through the rolling elements will directly damage the raceway and rolling elements, causing operating noise and premature failure. A sleeve must be used to apply force directly to the end face of the ring.
Cold pressing is preferred, proper hot mounting is recommended: For smaller bearings with loose fits, cold pressing can be used. Simply press them in smoothly with a press. For larger bearings with high interference fits, hot mounting is required. Evenly heat the inner ring of the bearing, but the maximum temperature should not exceed 120℃. Do not use an acetylene torch for direct heating, as this may cause phase transformation of the bearing steel, altering its dimensions and hardness.
2. Equipment-Specific Requirements (For Planar Thrust Ball Bearings) Pneumatic anchor drilling rigs commonly use the 51207 model planar thrust ball bearing. During installation, please note the following:
First, separate the upper and lower cover plates: Install the retaining ring with the larger outer diameter into the center of the transmission housing. This usually requires hammering it into place using a tool.
Then install the loosening ring and bearing body, and finally insert it into the spindle.
The principle is to ensure normal rotation of the part connected to the spindle while keeping the housing side fixed. Reversing the installation direction will result in insufficient power from the drilling rig and rapid bearing wear.
III. Post-Installation Inspection
1. Manually rotate the spindle to check if the bearing rotates smoothly, without any jamming, abnormal noise, or resistance.
2. Confirm that the bearing is installed in the correct position, with the end face fitting against the shaft shoulder, and without any tilting or misalignment.
3. Run the machine idle for a few minutes to check if the temperature is normal. If there is no abnormal temperature rise, the installation is complete.
