How To Use A Pneumatic Rib Drill Correctly?

Preparation Before Use

1. Certification: Operators must undergo professional training, pass the examination, and hold a valid certificate to operate the drill.

2. Equipment Inspection

Check that all parts of the drill are complete and in good condition, that joints are leak-free, pipelines are undamaged, air hoses are intact, joints are secure, and water holes are unobstructed.

Check that the drill rod is straight, the drill bit edge is sharp, the alloy blade is secure, and the joint threads are free from wear or damage.

Check that the compressed air pressure and volume meet the drill's requirements (working pressure should be maintained at 0.4-0.63MPa).

Check that the oil level in the air inlet lubricator is appropriate (200ml oil volume, leaving 10% of the transparent housing empty).

3. Connection and Trial Run

Before connecting the compressed air pipeline, drain any accumulated water from the pipeline and briefly purge the air hose to remove moisture and impurities.

Special U-shaped clamps must be used for connecting air and water pipes.

With the air and water switch off, repeatedly pull the trigger to check if the switch is flexible and reliable, and if it can quickly reset and stop after being released.

Orient the drill rig towards an unoccupied and safe area, briefly pull the trigger, listen for normal sound, observe if the operation is smooth, check if the motor and rotating parts rotate freely, check for abnormal vibrations, and ensure normal air and water flow. Only proceed with formal operation if everything is normal.

Drilling Operation Specifications

1. Establishing a Hole

It is recommended to operate with two people. Secure the base to a stable rock and adjust the drill rig angle.

The person holding the drill rod places the drill bit at the predetermined drilling position. The driller first turns on the air and then the water, lightly presses the drill rig, and intermittently pulls the trigger to create a positioning hole using impact force.

After the drill bit has stably cut into the rock (approximately 30mm), then rotate at full speed normally.

2. Normal Drilling

The driller's body should be away from the drill body, in a safe area outside the radius of the drill handle's horizontal position.

The person holding the drill rod should retreat to a safe area behind and to the side of the driller to supervise.

After the first drill rod is drilled in, stop the machine and shut off the air (water) supply. Reverse the machine to remove it, connect the second drill rod, and continue drilling until the predetermined depth is reached.

Once the hole is in place, slow down the drill speed, allowing the machine to smoothly withdraw from the working hole under gravity, carrying the drill rod. Then, shut off the air and water supply to the drill.

During operation, grip the handles firmly with both hands. Hold the motor switch with your left hand and the water switch with your right. After gripping the handles, push forward at a steady pace to avoid sudden increases in force that could cause the drill to jam, break the drill bit, or bend the drill rod.

Post-operation cleanup:

1. Let the drill idle briefly to remove moisture and prevent rust.

2. Check the drill for damage and loose bolts, and address any issues promptly.

3. Place the drill in a safe, dry location. Do not leave it lying around.

Safety Regulations

1. Personal Protective Equipment: Workers must wear masks and goggles. Safety ropes must be worn on operating platforms exceeding 2 meters in height.

2. Clothing Requirements: Loose clothing is strictly prohibited. Cuffs must be tightly fastened to prevent entanglement in rotating parts.

3. Prohibited Actions: Touching the drill rod or drill bit with hands or gloves while the drill is rotating is strictly prohibited. Exceeding the specified air pressure is strictly prohibited. Bent drill rods or anchor rods must not be used. The drill must be stopped immediately when dealing with a stuck drill bit. The drill must not be moved by hand, carrying air or water hoses.
