Which parts of pneumatic roofbolters require special lubrication?

I. Oil Cup (Lubricator) – Core Lubrication Point
The oil cup is the "heart" of pneumatic motor lubrication and must be continuously supplied with oil:

Oil Requirements: Use No. 30 machine oil (at an ambient temperature of 10℃~35℃). Hydraulic oil or heavy rock oil is strictly prohibited.

Oil Quantity Standard: Fill the lubricator to 1/2 to 2/3 of its capacity, leaving a 10% empty space to prevent leakage due to excessive pressure.

Oil Discharge Adjustment: Adjust the oil discharge rate to 2–3 ml per minute to ensure that the mist-like oil droplets enter the motor with the compressed air for dynamic lubrication.

Inspection Frequency: Check the oil quantity and discharge status before starting each shift. Observe whether oil mist is discharged from the silencer during operation.

⚠️ Operating without oil will quickly lead to motor overheating, gear wear, and even complete machine failure; this must be avoided.

II. Applying Lubricant Before Drill Pipe Insertion – Extending the Life of Wear Parts The drill pipe and drill bushing experience frequent friction and are therefore vulnerable parts.

Lubrication Method: Before inserting the drill pipe into the drill bushing, evenly apply lubricating grease to the hexagonal area.

Function: Reduces dry friction between metals, effectively extending the lifespan of the drill pipe and drill bushing, while also making assembly and disassembly smoother.

Recommended Oil: General-purpose lithium-based grease or special drill tool anti-jamming oil.

III. Post-Shift Maintenance – Preventing Rust and Jamming Cleaning and lubrication are essential after each shift.

Outriggers and Sliding Parts: Clean the surface of coal dust and rock chips. Apply anti-rust oil or grease to the piston rod, slide rails, etc., to prevent rust from causing poor extension and retraction.

Air and Water Filters: Clean the filters to prevent impurities from clogging the lubrication system.

Machine Storage: Store the drilling rig in a dry place with all three handles closed to prevent water ingress or oil line blockage. IV. Other Key Lubrication Components

Propulsion Gearbox: Every 0.5–1 month, replenish with No. 2 synthetic calcium-based grease (ZG-2H) through both grease fittings, filling the cavity to approximately 2/3 full.

Rotating Gearbox: Regularly check the grease condition. Replace promptly if dry or contaminated to ensure smooth gear operation.

Pneumatic Leg Piston Seals: Lubricated by oil mist in compressed air, ensure the grease cup functions properly to prevent dry friction and seal failure.

✅ Practice shows that proper lubrication can reduce the failure rate of Pneumatic Roofbolters by more than 40% and extend the service life of a single unit by 6–12 months.
